A Winning Team: How Veo and Link Logistics Are Running the Game
At Veo, Peter Baier leads the Logistics division. With over three decades of expertise in supply chain and logistics, he immediately recognised a compelling business case for Veo's expansion with a warehouse in the US market when he joined their team.
However, given Veo's unique requirements and scale, it became evident that a shift was necessary:
“Initially, we reached out to our former logistics partner. But, splitting our warehouse between Denmark and the States wouldn't work because our business wouldn’t be big enough for their requirements. We also checked out another American logistics solution, but their setup was a bit too complicated for us, and we felt like just another number to them. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it led us into the hands of Link Logistics”.
This marked the beginning of a winning partnership, with Link Logistics stepping up to the plate and assisting Veo in setting up a warehouse in New Jersey, US, and fine-tuning logistics processes across their supply chain. But, the real challenge laid ahead, as the process moved on to managing the supply chain and responding to the real-time needs of the business.
A partnership built on synergy and sustainability
"Entering the US market brought about our main worry: we had to cut down on costs without compromising delivery speed for our customers. Link Logistics came through for us in a big way, as they for one were able to deal with our bulky 7.4-meter camera tripod. Not only did they deliver on their promises but also assisted us in cost savings while reducing our CO2 emissions", Peter Baier explains.
Collaborating with Veo empowered Link Logistics to negotiate more favourable deals with their suppliers, initially benefiting both Veo and Link.
“I reckon that one of the key reasons this partnership is successful is because we've been spot-on at sharing what we need and making sure everyone's on the same page about our journey ahead. Right now, I know that I can throw anything in Link’s direction - I know that they’ll always take care of everything. They've proven just that. I'm genuinely excited about the potential and ongoing work in this partnership, particularly when I think about our expansion into new markets. Asia might be up next”, Peter Baier tells.
Trust your gut and just do it
Many scale-ups are looking at establishing a foothold in the US market. But like all new expansions this presents various challenges that - according to Peter Baier - requires more than a strong business case:
“My top advice for companies on the brink of such a move? Take the leap. It might sound simple, but trust me, sometimes you've got to build the plane as you fly it – just as we did at Veo. From my experience, there's always a bit of hesitancy in management, even when the numbers paint a compelling picture. It's crucial to address these concerns head-on. Additionally, make sure you prioritise effective communication about change throughout the process to get everyone on board. And don't forget to lean on partners like Link for support and guidance along the way”
Last but not least, Peter Baier has another advice:
“Always keep your house in order: Every piece of data we provide to Link holds potential for improvement and growth. Begin by reviewing and refining your own setup; with a foundation set for success, partnering with the right ally will propel your growth.".
